African American Heritage

A Trail of Shared Heritage

The Hagen History Center is proud to be a part of the rediscovery of this important chapter of our local heritage. Our long out of print book on the black experience in Erie County, Journey From Jerusalem, is available for research on the link below.

African Americans in Erie County: A Trail of Shared Heritage, is a community history project that invites local residents and visitors to discover key people, places, and events associated with the history of African Americans in Erie County. The Shared Heritage website, along with the driving and walking tour brochure (available at the Hagen History Center), invites a greater understanding and appreciation of the early pioneers, community leaders, and freedom fighters who helped forge local African American history, part of our shared American story.
