Kitchen god brought by Miss C. V. Lee, long a missionary in China. Donated in 1944 by Mrs. Robert Crawford.
Provenance:
The kitchen god is often represented in Chinese homes as a picture located near the stove. He is the moral force in the lives of the family. The kitchen god goes to heaven a week before the Chinese New Year to report to the Jade Emporer who then rewards or punishes each household.
